One dead, one person severely injured in ATV accident in Knox County

On April 13, an ATV crash in Knox County left one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at around 10:46 p.m. on the 2800 block of Knox Road 900 E. According to a news release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle appears to have hit an embankment as it was driving through a field.

The driver, a 25-year-old from Altona, Illinois, was pronounced dead. The 19-year-old passenger of Cambridge, Illinois, was taken to a local hospital before being transported by LifeFlight to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria with "life-threatening injuries.”

Names of the victims are being withheld, pending notification of families.

The crash is being investigated by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team.
