A 25-year-old Pensacola woman will spend the next 15 years in state prison for spraying lighter fluid on another woman and lighting her on fire last year.

An Escambia County jury found 25-year-old Darneque Jones guilty in a June 6, 2023 incident where a release states she sprayed lighter fluid on her roommate and threw a cigarette at a bag also covered in the fluid, causing a fire.

A release states the fire caused an aerosol can in the bag to explode, setting the victim on fire.

During Jones' sentencing, the State argued while the victim may one day be released from custody and supervision, the victim will never be free of the scars resulting from Jones' actions.

Jones' sentence will be followed by 10 years of probation on charges of arson and arson causing great bodily harm.
