ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - After a brief retirement, Chris Chelette has reclaimed his position as the head of the Alexandria Mardi Gras Association, a role he held for 15 years. In his absence, Josh Candiloro briefly assumed the presidency for a year.

Now back in charge, Chelette is eager to foster the growth of krewes across the association. He envisions an exciting era for the organization, by increasing interest from young individuals looking to participate in or establish their own krewes.

“We’re thrilled to see our group growing, but we’re still around the lower 20s in numbers. It would be great to reach 30 members for a change,” he said. “We’ve noticed some people dropping out over the years because the parents were more involved than the kids, who didn’t fully grasp the effort and costs involved. Now, as new generations step in, they’re eager to start their own group or revive the old one.”
