Northwest Bible Baptist Church celebrates golden anniversary with annual performance of Handel’s ‘Hallelujah Chorus’

The majestic “Hallelujah Chorus” from George Frideric Handel’s Messiah will again be sung by the 160-voice combined choirs of Elgin’s Northwest Bible Baptist Church and its Providence Baptist College, to open the church’s Sunday service on March 31.

This popular Easter night choral performance is an annual tradition at Northwest, which marked its 50th anniversary this March. The church is celebrating its golden anniversary with special events throughout the year. Everyone is invited to this event in commemoration of the miraculous resurrection of The Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, God’s Son and the Messiah.

This Easter special will take place at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the church, 9N889 Nesler Road in the far-west side of Elgin. The church’s Pastor is Phil Cavanaugh, who two years ago succeeded Dr. Keith Gomez as pastor, after a five-year transition as co-pastor. Dr. Gomez had retired from the church’s pastorate after 40 years but remains active, preaching at other churches, conferences, camps, and ministries across the country. Pastor Cavanaugh is a graduate of Northwest’s own Providence Baptist College; he previously served 10 years as a youth pastor and assistant pastor at First Baptist Church in Dwight, Ill.
