SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — We had another warm day in KELOLAND. High temperatures by 2 PM were in the 70s, nearing 80° along the Nebraska border.

It has also been very windy this afternoon. Some wind gusts since midnight have reached 40 to 50 MPH. These strong winds will stick around overnight and into the next couple of days.

There is a Red Flag Warning, in red, posted in central and eastern KELOLAND through this evening. This means we have dry conditions and strong winds, so if a fire does get started outside it can spread rapidly. There is a High Wind Watch, in orange, in western South Dakota for tomorrow.

As we head into the later part of this evening and overnight tonight we are watching the threat of severe weather. Large hail and strong winds are going to be the main threats, BUT there is a risk of an isolated tornado. The area likely to see a tornado, if they do form, will be right along the Nebraska border from south central to south eastern KELOLAND, including the Yankton area.

For tonight, we will have widespread rain and thunderstorms. There will be strong winds. The low temperatures are going to stay on the mild side, only dropping to the mid 40s to mid 50s. Southeastern KELOLAND could have some pockets of rain that could reach 3″ or more.

The risk of severe weather will continue overnight and into tomorrow morning in southeastern KELOLAND. The main threats will be strong winds and large hail.

Widespread rain and thunderstorms will continue through the day tomorrow. We will keep strong winds around as well. High temperatures will be in the 50s to mid 60s.

The strong wind will continue into Wednesday. The light rain showers will also be possible through Wednesday/ High temperatures are going to be slightly cooler, only in the 50s to low 60s.

We keep the strong winds around through Saturday. There is still a chance of light rain showers through Thursday morning. High temperatures will fall below normal by the end of the week. We do have a slight warm up by the start of next week.
