An additional closure of the Colonial Parkway heralds the project moving into its second phase this week, the National Park Service announced.

As of Tuesday, the parkway is closed to all travel in either direction between Yorktown and Route 199, the park service said. Visitors may still access the parkway at Fusiliers Road to reach scenic pull-outs along the York River, but they will need to travel back to Fusiliers Road to exit the parkway. Detour signs are in place.

The current closures from Ballard Street in Yorktown to Fusiliers Road and both Route 17 access ramps remain in effect through the second phase of the project.

The parkway will remain closed from near Route 199 in Williamsburg to, and including, the Williamsburg Tunnel, the park service said. The North England Street access ramp will remain open to local traffic and Colonial Williamsburg buses through the summer; the closure will expand to include the North England Street ramp and the Williamsburg Circle toward the end of the summer.

The rehabilitation project includes replacing pavement, repairing 11 bridges and rehabilitation of the Williamsburg Tunnel. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of summer 2026.
