Country music fans who appreciate Sawyer Brown, Shenandoah and Canadian George Fox can see all three acts at Westoba Place in Brandon on Oct. 27.

The four members of Sawyer Brown are celebrating 40 years in entertainment and will kick off their Canadian tour in Edmonton 10 days before the Brandon show.

Their careers took off in the early 1980s when they appeared on the television show “Star Search” and won first place, which included prize money and a recording contract. Since then, Sawyer Brown has released more than a dozen albums and had three No. 1 singles — “Thank God for You,” “Some Girls Do” and “Step That Step.”

This February, the band released a new album, “Desperado Troubadours,” with the single and music video “Under This Ole Hat.”

But one of the band’s most requested songs, said Mark Miller, who has been the frontman since 1981, is the song “The Race Is On.”

“One of the unique things about the band is we don’t really have a lot of love songs. We have life songs,” Miller stated in a news release.

The concert at Westoba Place will also feature the six members of Shenandoah, with two of the original artists, lead singer Marty Raybon and drummer Mike McGuire.

Shenandoah’s top 10 hits included “She Doesn’t Cry Anymore” and “Mama Knows,” as well as songs that reached No. 1 — “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Two Dozen Roses.”

In 1991, the country, bluegrass and gospel music group won the Academy of Country Music award for vocal group of the year.

Five years later, the group won a Grammy for best country performance by a duo or group with vocal for the duet with Alison Krauss, “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart.”

The opening act for both groups is Alberta’s George Fox, who was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2022.

Fox is a three-time Juno Award winner for country male vocalist of the year and has won male vocalist of the year three times with the Canadian Country Music Association.

His debut singles, “Angelina” and “Goldmine,” climbed the country charts, and his top 10 songs included “Mustang Heart” and “I Give You My Word.”

During his international touring in the 1980s, Fox opened for Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and George Strait.

Tickets for the Sawyer Brown 40th anniversary tour featuring Shenandoah and George Fox go on sale this Friday and can be purchased by calling 204-726-3555 or visiting www.ticketmaster.ca.
