EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - An Evansville gas station in ruins.

General Manager of Mach 1 on Highway 41, Justin Lamey, decided to come into work early, before the storms hit.

Minutes after arriving, buckets of water started falling from the sky, and winds up to 80 miles per hour came through.

It caused heavy damage to this region of northern Vanderburgh County and tore the roof of the gas station completely off.

“I’ve not been in a storm like that before. It was a whistling sound for sure, sounded like a train almost. It was dumping water in here, looked like waterfalls coming out of the ceiling, and then whenever it started lighting up, we could see all the damage outside of the store,” said Lamey.

After the destruction, Lamey says he’s hopeful they can rebuild and reopen.
