BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) — A McDowell County man pleaded guilty to a federal drug crime that involved cocaine and methamphetamine.

44-year-old Lansen Sharif Waugh, of Kyle, pleaded guilty to distribution of cocaine and methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Waugh sold controlled substances with cocaine and methamphetamine on June 15, 2021 to a confidential informant at a house in the Kyle area of McDowell County where Waugh was staying.

Waugh acknowledged his involvement in the sale, and further revealed that he sold cocaine and a controlled substance with fentanyl and heroin on two separate occasions to the confidential informant.

A search warrant at Waugh’s house in Kyle was performed by law enforcement officers on July 2, 2021. Two guns and additional amounts of cocaine were found in the house as a result of the search warrant.

Waugh revealed that he had plans to distribute the cocaine that was discovered during the search.

Waugh’s sentencing is scheduled for August 12, 2024, and he faces up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of three years of parole, and a $1 million fine.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Will Thompson, who thanked the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for their work on the investigation.

The Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crime Task Force includes members of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, the Bluefield Police Department, the Princeton Police Department, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Virginia State Police.
