DORAL, Fla. (WFLA) — Two people were killed and seven others were injured in a mass shooting at a Florida mall Saturday morning, according to police.

NBC affiliate WTVJ reported that the shooting happened at about 3:30 a.m. at Martini Bar in CityPlace Doral.

Police said a dispute at the bar turned deadly when a security guard tried to intervene, only for a shooter to gun him down. Six other bystanders, two women and four men, were also injured in the chaos, according to WTVJ.

Doral police Chief Edwin Lopez said an officer was also injured in a shootout with the suspect, which ended in the suspect’s death. Another officer also opened fire in the shootout but was not injured.

“The one who was struck, with four years of service, applied a tourniquet on himself immediately after being struck even after he discharged his firearm,” the chief said.

Two of the victims were said to be in critical condition. The officer was stable and released from a hospital after being treated, police said.

According to Lopez, the mall was the site of a multi-agency shooter drill a year ago, which prepared his officers for this exact situation.

“The extensive training that our police officers undergo is a testament as to why that officer is alive today,” he said.

The nightclub issued a statement, saying the death of the security guard was a tragedy.

Our hearts are broken by the tragedy that unfolded at our venue early this morning that took the life of a dedicated security guard and injured several others. Our staff, patrons, and this community are like family to us, and we are completely shaken by this senseless act of violence. We’re working diligently to ensure that all those affected by this feel supported in every way possible. We are conducting our own internal investigation, as well as cooperating fully with all authorities.
