Woman critically injured after crashing into Northern Illinois University bus in Kane County

VIRGIL TOWNSHIP, Ill. — A driver is in critical condition after she turned into an oncoming lane and hit a Northern Illinois University bus Sunday night in Kane County.

The crash happened just before 8:40 p.m. near Route 38 and Francis Road in Virgil Township.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, a driver, 25, of St. Charles, made a wide turn on Route 38 eastbound and came into the oncoming westbound lane. She then hit the front of a NIU Huskie Bus Line bus.

The woman was taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva and was later flown to Loyola Hospital in Maywood in critical condition.

The bus driver, a 66-year-old man, of Carpentersville, and several of the 22 passengers on the bus were taken to various local hospitals with minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
