Perham leaves competition in the dust at Anderson-Cole Invite

The Yellowjackets protected their home course with both teams finishing in the top spot on Friday.

PERHAM — The Perham track and field teams hosted nine teams at its first home invitational of the season. Both Yellowjacket squads grabbed the top spots winning the Anderson-Cole Invite.

The Perham boys team finished in first with 179.5 team points and the girls secured the top spot on the podium with 201 team points.

The boys dominated the track events. Tyrus Coudron ended the 100-meter dash in first place with a time of 11.59 and grabbed a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash (24.55 behind second-place finisher and teammate Blake Swenson (24.45).

Swenson sprinted into a silver-medal finish in the 400-meter dash (53.78). He was a part of the first-place winning 4x400 team of Kiethen Anderson, Carter Flatau and Bjorn Anderson. Anderson went on to sprint into first place in the 800-meter race (1:58.70) and the 1600-meter race (4:26.40).

Dylan Guck placed second (4:29.22) and Flatau (4:40.22) wasn’t too far behind in third as the Yellowjackets grabbed the top three spots in the 1600-meter race. Ethan Haataja secured second place in the 3200-meter race (11:11.32) while Brody Freeland ended the race in third place (11:15.63).

Noah Novotny held the top spot in the pole vault thrusting himself 11 feet over the bar. Brandon Sandberg launched the shot put 43 feet and four inches for a second-place finish.

The girls had a strong day on both the track and the field. Gracie Morris soared to first place in the 800-meter race (2:26.83). Mia Lung finished five seconds later in third place (2:31.33). Morris and Lung paired up with Jaden Hackel and Cora Grismer as the squad placed first in the 4x400 meter race (4:16.63).

Lung also grabbed a silver medal in the 1600-meter race with a time of 5:30.10. Aspen Rhode crossed the finish line in third place (5:35.38), Avalee Brown placed fourth (5:41.83) and Addison Toedter secured fifth place (5:52.49) grabbing the four the top five spots in the 1600-meter race.

Aurora Schumacher finished in second place (1:06.03), Renna Kaldor sprinted into third place (1:07.40) and Leelou Novotny secured fourth place (1:08.17) as the trio took up three of the top four spots in the 400-meter dash.

The girls 4x100-meter team of Jovie Larson, Kennedy Pilgrim, Alexis Hartmann and Addy Draeger ended the race in first place (55.08). The 4x200-meter relay squad of Addi and Jaden Hackel, Morris and Grismer sprinted into second place (1:52.04).

The 4x800-meter relay team of Renna Kaldor, Haven Fjosne, Novotny and Schumacher finished in first place (11:21.28).

Addi Hackel vaulted into first place (11 feet) in the pole vault. She also soared to a second-place finish in the triple jump (34 feet, 1 inch). She was one of five girls to finish in the top six of the event. Jaden Hackel jumped into third place in the high jump (4 feet, 8 inches).
