‘Project 007’ developer teases the best James Bond game “ever made”

The name's Santoro. Rodrigo Santoro

Project 007, an upcoming James Bond game being developed by Hitman studio IO Interactive, is promised to be “the best 007 game ever made.”

IO has welcomed a new missions director for Project 007, former The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora developer Rodrigo Santoro. He was the world director for Avatar and lead level designer for both The Division and The Division 2, so his experience should suit the kind of levels IO is known for.

Santoro said in a statement: “Right now, I am looking forward to start working with the team, and together, delivering the best 007 game ever made.” Big promises. He also said: “I admire how the studio dares to innovate and create new memorable game experiences. This is particularly remarkable in times when most companies are focused on making sequels.”

Project 007 was announced three years ago with a short teaser trailer. It promises to deliver a new James Bond story and his first ever origin tale. It could be claimed that Daniel Craig’s first outing as the British spy in Casino Royale was a Bond origin story, as it showed his first kill and mission as a 00 agent.

Frederik Villumsen, associate production director said of Santoro’s joining: “Since we started the interview process last year, it was clear that Rodrigo stood out from the crowd. […] His critical thinking and enthusiasm are qualities we welcome, and we look forward to seeing him make an impact as Missions Director, where he will direct the balancing of story, art and gameplay to design the most amazing Bond missions.”

In other news, a fresh trailer for Mouse has been released, and it shows off some of the upcoming ’30s-inspired FPS’ power-ups, such as enhanced spinach arms, a grappling hook tail, and helicopter ears.
