Tom Brady recently heaped some high praise on the Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, predicting that Allen would be the next quarterback likely to win his first Super Bowl.
During an appearance on the DeepCut podcast with socially viral barber Vic Blends, Brady was questioned about which current quarterback will win his first Super Bowl. Despite the plethora of young talented quarterbacks in the league, Brady confidently picked the Bills' Josh Allen.
Brady did acknowledge, however, that there is a significant roadblock for Allen to accomplish that ultimate goal.
"I like Josh Allen a lot. I pick Josh," Brady said. "I like Josh a lot as a guy, as a leader, but he's got to get past the Chiefs, which is hard, because Patrick's incredible in the way he leads that team."
Allen has not been able to get past the reigning Super Bowl champions, which is understandable. It appears that Patrick Mahomes gets better every season. Even in 2023 when there was a multitude of issues with dropped passes, Kansas City still blew through the competition in the playoffs.
Allen has also been heavily criticized in terms of his inability to be his normal self when faced with pressure from opposing defenders. His 18 interceptions last season came with a ton of critiques.
Tom Brady and the New England Patriots dominated during their time in the league, winning 17 AFC East division titles and six Super Bowls. Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have shown that they may be the next dynasty, winning three of the last four Super Bowls and showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Mahomes and Allen have met seven times in their careers with Mahomes coming out on top four times. Allen is 3-1 in regular season matchups while Mahomes has triumphed in all of their three playoff clashes.
Mahomes went 3-3 in his six career starts against Brady, going 1-2 against the 15-time Pro Bowler while he was on the Patriots and 2-1 against him during his final seasons in Tampa Bay. In the playoffs with it all on the line, however, Mahomes was 0-2 against Brady, losing to him in the AFC championship game in 2019 and in the Super Bowl in 2021.
Allen would need to figure out how and why Brady was able to get past Mahomes and mimic his success. As it stands right now, Allen is currently on the outside looking in when it comes to being able to challenge the Chiefs and their AFC dominance.
