One man is dead and two other people are seriously injured after an early morning wreck on Interstate 4 near Daytona Beach, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened around 3:30 a.m. today on I-4 westbound near mile marker 130 near the I-4 and Interstate 95 interchange.

A man in a 2013 Honda Accord hit the back of an SUV, causing his car to spin and hit a guard rail. The Honda ran off the road and into a ditch, careened into the air and struck a tree on the outside shoulder, landing on its right side, according to the FHP.

After getting hit from behind, the SUV spun and flipped multiple times before landing upright in the median, and the passenger was ejected from the vehicle.

The passenger, a 37-year-old DeLand man, died at the scene. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Honda, also a 37-year-old man from DeLand, had serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and first responders took him to Halifax Hospital.

The driver of the SUV, a 36-year-old woman from Deltona, was taken to Halifax Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
