Grandin “Potter” Coe, born May 28th, 1953, passed away: March 16th, 2024, he was the Son of Dr. Walter S. Coe and Billie Coe.

Potter passed away peacefully after a long illness, complicated by diabetes. He graduated from Westport High School, class of 1971. He was a longtime Louisville cardinal fan, lover of fine arts, with extensive depth and breadth of knowledge of artists and their techniques. Potter first picked up a paint brush, paint and plenty of crayons when he was 4 years old. He attended his first college level studio art class when he was 14 years old. Later he attended the Corcoran School of Art and the Louisville School of Art. He had a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Louisville. Later, Potter ran his own art gallery in the 1980’s in the upper west side of Manhattan, the Grandin Gallery. He became Marketing Director of Vision Express, a 1-hour optical chain of 30 stores in 13 states and Puerto Rico. He also served as president of Lens Lab Super Optical a 17-store chain, in addition to running Creative Impact Marketing company in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky for 25 years.

Potter was a true renaissance man who loved beautiful art, fine foods, a world traveler, and was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He was much loved and will be missed. He is survived by his brothers; Randy Coe (Christe), and Bruce Coe (Susan) as well as his nieces and nephews, Slater (Courtney), Kelly (Max), Sarah (Will), Michael, Katie, and Joey Coe. Plus the many adoring great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Rd., St. Matthews on Thursday, March 21st from 5pm – 7pm.

The burial procession will line up at the Broadway entrance of Cave Hill Cemetery at 1:45pm Friday March 22nd, 2024.
