Pet Cam Captures How Golden Retriever Reacts to 2 Strangers Entering Home

Not all dogs are meant to be guardians and protect their home—some of them just want to love and be loved, by everyone.

A dog owner has left the internet in stitches after revealing what her dog did when two strangers got into their apartment when the pooch was home alone.

In a hilarious clip shared on TikTok in March under the username baileypretzelwinnie, the golden retriever Pretzel, also known as the 'master retriever,' can be seen wagging her tail at the strangers, who were there to carry out work in the apartment, instead of barking and growling at them.

A caption reads: "How our golden retriever reacted when two strangers came into our apartment. Automatically best friends."

The poster told Newsweek: "I certainly didn't expect to see Pretzel become friends with them immediately. I expected her to be a little reluctant to trust them, but she fully embraced them with open arms."

In the background, another dog, a black Labrador called Winnie can also be seen quietly accepting the situation as she lies in her kennel waiting for her owner to come back home and let her out.

"We just rescued Winnie from the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter in October of 2023, and she unfortunately has to be locked up while we're away because she barks and attacks our blinds when people walk by," she said.

However, while the dogs did not personally know the workers, they sure had seen and smelled them around.

"They've seen them in passing since they work for our apartment complex, but never in close proximity. Usually, when they come to work on something, I put them all away in a room so that they can be out of the workers' way. However, we were out to brunch when they came, and luckily our camera picked up the encounter."

Although golden retrievers are very loyal to their owners, because of their gentle nature, they don't make the best guardian dogs.

If that's what you're looking for, you may choose a different breed, more appropriate for the role. According to the American Kennel Club, the best guardian dog breeds include Akitas, Anatolian and German shepherds, and bullmastiffs, among others.

However, the website warns: "These breeds need proper training and socialization due to their strength and size."

The video quickly went viral on social media, bringing viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 446,800 views and 46,400 likes on the platform.

One user, Cassidy Nicole Wine, commented: "Would you guys like some water? A treat?? Let me know." Regina Phalange said: "My dog would literally show robbers where I hide my jewelry."

Alexandriahernan370 added: "Sometimes I wish my German shepherd was like this but she would attack on spot, she's loving when she gets used to ppl tho."
