Did the Dolphins sign Odell Beckham Jr.? Tyreek Hill teases as much on social media

Dan Rorabaugh
USA TODAY NETWORK - Florida

What's Tyreek Hill up to now? According to his social media, he's breaking news that Odell Beckham Jr. is coming to the Miami Dolphins.

Wait, or is he retiring? No, that "news" came on April Fools' Day. Who can really tell with Cheetah?

There is a lot of attention around the Dolphins' pursuit of Beckham as the team looks to get past two straight first-round playoff losses and make a run at the Super Bowl. OBJ visited the Dolphins on March 21, and coach Mike McDaniel said the team had reached out with a contract offer to the free agent. Signing a receiver with Beckham's pedigree could impact the approaching NFL Draft.

There's also a lot of attention around Hill, both for his on-field talent and his off-field antics. In recent months, the Dolphins' star receiver has been sued by a model for allegedly breaking her leg and maybe filed for divorce against Keeta Vaccaro, whom he married in November.

Here's what we know:

Did Tyreek Hill signal Odell Beckham signing with the Dolphins?

Late on April 4, Tyreek Hill made a post on Snapchat of him hugging Odell Beckham Jr. with the message "OBJ to Miami confirmed."

Hill posts often to social media, though, and his posts often can't be taken seriously. He also posted to Instagram photos of him playing the Los Angeles Chargers with the caption "Soon my dear friend."

The Chargers player shown was cornerback Michael Davis, who signed with the Washington Commanders over the offseason. What's the connection? Nobody knows.

Did Tyreek Hill retire? No, those were April Fools' jokes

As is tradition every April 1, sports fans got caught up in a few extra spins of the rumor mill. A video by Ty Shiesty, who has 180,000 followers on TikTok and 121,000 on YouTube, picked up hundreds of thousands of views claiming to be reacting to reports that Tyreek Hill told the Dolphins he wouldn't play in 2024.

This was an April Fools' Day joke. Hill has previously said he plans to retire after the 2026 season, when his current contract with the Dolphins expires.

Has Odell Beckham signed with an NFL team?

As of April 5, Odell Beckham is still a free agent. He was with the Baltimore Ravens last season, making 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns from NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. But the team released him March 14, and Ravens coach John Harbaugh said March 25 it was a financial decision. Beckham's one-year contract in Baltimore was worth $15 million.

OBJ said farewell to the Ravens in an Instagram post: "I appreciate the Flock more than yall could EVER imagine," he wrote. "Did everything I could wit the opportunities I had. Wish I got to do it big for yall 💍."

Beckham visited the Dolphins on March 21, and coach Mike McDaniel said the team made the receiver an offer. They're the only team known to have offered him a contract.

Where would Odell Beckham fit in with the Dolphins?

Odell Beckham would be the No. 3 receiver in coach Mike Daniel's already potent passing attack. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the NFL last season with 4,624 passing yards, and his top wideout, Tyreek Hill, led the league with 1,799 receiving yards. Hill, aka "Cheetah," was flanked by fellow speedy receiver Jaylen Waddle, who had 1,014 yards (27th).

Beckham would slot in behind Hill and Waddle. OBJ isn't the same player he was at his peak, but when healthy, he's still capable of being yet another downfield threat, as he showed at times last season.

He's still got great hands and gets most of his opportunities on slants, routes that could benefit the Dolphins with the speedy Hill and Waddle forcing defenses to guard deep.
