CHARLOTTE – The Charlotte City Council will hold public hearings April15 for mixed-use rezoning projects within Councilmember Tariq Bokhari’s district in which staff does not recommend approval. Together, these projects represent upwards of 2,238 residential units.

• Petition 2023-023 by Horizon Development Properties

This would allow a multi-family development with up to 380 units on 8.55 acres on the east side of Old Providence Road and west side of Providence Road, north of River Oaks Lane. The maximum height is up to 80 feet.

• Petition 2023-038 by Levine Properties

This would allow up to 1,113 residential units and up to 357,740 square feet of non-residential square footage on 84.16 acres on the north and south side of Sardis Lane, and east side of Providence Road. This would be split up into five development areas. The maximum height is up to 80 feet.

• Petition 2023-039 by Northwood Ravin

This would allow up to 745 residential units on 20.12 acres bound by the east side of Old Providence Road and west side of Providence Road, north of River Oaks Lane.

Charlotte City Council is also scheduled to vote on a petition April 15 from Childress Klein Properties and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools regarding a future south Charlotte secondary school on Tom Short Road as well as a residential community with over 900 dwelling units.

“We believe it will bring a mix of residential housing and a well-designed site plan with large open space areas, trails and very much the opportunity to bring the highly sought-after middle school to this site,” said Jeff Brown, of Moore & Van Allen, during the March public hearing.

Brown said the project would adhere to 50 and 100-year storm events with larger retention ponds and better management.

The council will hold its zoning meeting at 5 p.m. April 15 at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 E. 4th St.
