Community welcomes local veterans home from Honor Flight

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The third Honor Flight of the Cape Fear Area flight brought 75 local World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans to Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 20, according to a HFCFA announcement.

HFCFA invited the community to welcome these veterans home that evening when they returned to Wilmington International Airport.

“A hub of the national Honor Flight Network, HFCFA was established in 2020 with the sole mission of flying Veterans to Washington, DC free-of-charge for a day of honor and remembrance. Veterans from the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam eras, as well as Veterans from any era that suffer from a life-limiting illness are welcome to apply to travel on the annual spring flight,” the HFCFA release states.

In D.C., the veterans toured the memorials and monuments built to honor them.
