Carson Wentz has a new NFL home, and it is about as good of a landing spot as there is in football.
The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback signed a one-year deal Monday with the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, according to multiple reports. He now gets an opportunity to backup, perhaps, the best quarterback in football, Patrick Mahomes.
Wentz, 31, was out of football last season until he signed with the Rams in Week 10 to serve as the backup to Matthew Stafford.
He ended up starting one game, the team’s regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers and went 17 of 24 passing for 163 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also ran for 56 yards and a touchdown.

It doesn’t seem that long ago that Wentz, who the Eagles took with the second pick in the 2016 draft, was being talked about as a potential league MVP as a second-year player. He threw for 3,296 yards with 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions and helped the Eagles go 11-2 with him as a starter that season.

He was traded by Philadelphia to the Indianapolis Colts prior to the 2021 season. Wentz posted solid numbers for Indianapolis, passing for 3,563 yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions, but he faltered at times down the stretch. That prompted the Colts to ship him to Washington in exchange for second and seventh-round picks prior to the 2022 season.
Wentz played in eight games, starting seven, in 2022 and posted a 2-5 record. He threw for 1,755 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Commanders.
