ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – A college preparation organization has launched a partnership with Rochester Public Schools to help high school students navigate the college application process.

College Possible Minnesota was founded in 2000. According to the organization, it has helped 15,800 students from historically underserved backgrounds get on a path to earning a college degree. It works to match eligible students with a peer coach and an evidence-based curriculum designed to help students overcome the most common barriers to getting into college and completing their degree. This is free to the students.

“The biggest issue that we see is that the college application process is very complex,” College Possible Minnesota’s Senior Director of Programs BG Tucker said. “It can be very challenging especially if you’re the only person in your family attending college. We aim to help the students and parents navigate that very complicated path to college.”

Its new partnership with Rochester Public Schools will be helping around 30-60 online high school students with the college application process. The process starts in the Junior year and College Possible follows the students through their college careers.

“At a minimum, we serve students for six years,” College Possible Senior External Relations Director Isaiah Allen said. “And, we will often be with students for eight to 10 years often because the students that we support their college journey is not a linear path because of their circumstances it has a lot of twists and turns. They’re often more complicated. They often have different financial or social challenges that they have to address.”

The partnership with RPS will start in the fall. Allen said RPS will be sending out more information to students in the next few weeks.
