Residents will start getting their water restored after a burst main on Thursday left them without a supply, a water company says.

Two secondary schools in Chippenham had to shut and Wessex Water provided bottled water at four locations.

The utility company said the repairs were "particularly complex" and took longer than expected.

Those affected lived in the SN15 and SN14 areas. Wessex Water has thanked people for their patience.

On Thursday night residents Chippenham were queuing up for bottled water after their supply stopped mid-afternoon, and people continued to queue on Friday.

For those still waiting for water to be restored, bottles are available from Pewsham Community Centre, Cricketts Lane, Eastern Avenue and Ladyfield Church in Hungerdown Lane.

Stephanie Jones, Director of Customer and Water Network said: "We have been liaising with essential services in the Chippenham area throughout to ensure they have water, while customers in vulnerable circumstances have been contacted to make sure they have bottled water."

Anybody there who has discoloured water once their supply comes back should visit the Wessex Water website for advice.
