Wharton endorsed by Slocum

Trey Wharton has received the endorsement of John Harvey Slocum, as he steps away from Republican Primary seat for Texas House District 12.

The race for Texas House District 12 Republican ticket will now be Trey Wharton against Ben Bius in the runoff election.

John Harvey Slocum posted a statement to his Facebook page on Monday, endorsing Wharton for the position, and bowing out of the race.

The Walker County Republican Party has submitted the necessary paperwork to order the runoff to the state. The remaining five Republican parties for each county have until Friday to file the same paperwork.

“Thank you, District 12, for such an amazing experience. It was an honor to run in this race,” Slocum said. “As you know, I’m heart broken it didn’t work out. I am also very secure that our Lord never makes mistakes and He has me right where I need to be.

I want to thank my wife, Theresa, and my kids, Dillan and Bubba, for the unwavering support that each of you always give me. I am truly the luckiest man alive because of the three of you. I love each of you so much.”

Slocum said to the new relationships he’s made, and to all the old friends and amazing supporters that continue to support him, he thanked them for believing in him and helping every chance they could.

“I’m so humbled for all the love so many people have shown and continue to show.

I am forever indebted to each of you. I hope one day I can return the support,” Slocum said.

“I am proud to endorse Trey Wharton to be our district’s next state representative. During our time on the campaign trail, I got to know Trey and his wife JoLynne. They are wonderful, Christian people. Trey is the person we need representing our values and needs in Austin,” Slocum said.

Wharton said Tuesday he was honored to hear from Slocum and accept his endorsement.

“He ran a strong campaign and I appreciated his values and perspective on the issues facing our district and state,” Wharton said.

“I look forward to campaigning together to ensure that we finish this campaign strong and win.”

Slocum said Wharton is a rock solid conservative who will faithfully represent each and every one, and he will be doing what he can to ensure Wharton’s victory in the May 28 runoff.
