The City of El Paso and EPWater will host its first community meeting on proposed changes to impact fees, or rates charged to new developments that pay for any necessary water and wastewater infrastructure of that development.

The impact fees were first implemented in 2009 and placed the burden of costs on developers rather than all EPWater ratepayers.

According to the city, impact fees are only charged when new homes and buildings are constructed in impact fee zones across the city.

Staff from EPWater and the City will discuss the history of impact fees, the areas of growth where impact fees are assessed and the capital improvements that will be funded with impact fees.

El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser and the City Council will hold a public hearing during the regular City Council meeting at 9 a.m. on April 23, before voting on the proposed changes to the impact fees.
