No measles reported in Cincinnati following incident at Heritage Bank Center
CINCINNATI (WXIX) -The Cincinnati Health Department has reported that there were no cases of measles resulting from exposure during the Disney On Ice performance at the Heritage Bank Center in March.
“We took prompt action following the news of thousands of people having been exposed to measles because this is a very infectious disease, much more infectious than COVID for those who are not immune,” said Grant Mussman, M.D., MHSA, Cincinnati Health Department Commissioner. “Fortunately, most individuals have received the MMR vaccine, which provides robust protection against measles. This is yet another example of the importance of being up to date with important vaccines so we can minimize the risk of preventable viral infections.”
The health department says that the person who had measles on March 8 was not a Cincinnati resident.
Officials with the health department recommended that anyone who attended the show take precautionary measures like getting tested if they had any symptoms.
Measles symptoms include:
- High fever
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Watery eyes
- A rash three to five days after other symptoms
