SALADO, Texas (KWTX) - Saturday was Texas Independence Day and the City of Salado united to celebrate with the Budweiser brand and their famous mascots, the Clydesdale horses.

People from across Central Texas visited the Salado Civic Center to see the famous Budweiser Clydesdales, including Norma Maedgen, who arrived nearly two hours early to get a good spot.

“It’s just very exciting and we expected a pretty fair crowd and we wanted to make sure we were going to be able to see,” said Maedgen.

The horses captured everyone’s attention and Jim Schwartz, who worked with the Budweiser team to bring the horses to Salado, says he’s happy that they can celebrate Texas Independence Day in a unique way.

“We actually request them and, hopefully, you get picked. This year is the first time we’ve brought them to Salado,” Schwartz said.

People of all ages were fascinated by the Clydesdales, with the biggest horse weighing more than 2,000 pounds.

Salado Mayor Michael Coggin said he was happy to see the community enjoy themselves together.

“Anything like this is well attended and well appreciated. These horses are known worldwide. Any time you go to a Super Bowl, there’s a Clydesdales commercial,” Mayor Coggin said.
