GRAND RAPIDS, MI – In 2020, the killing of George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer in Minnesota sparked a national Black Lives Matter movement and a serious conversation on how police interact with Black people.

Two years later, a white police officer shot a Black man, Patrick Lyoya, in the back of the head in Grand Rapids, generating a similar conversation in Michigan’s second largest city.
