A popular west Ames sports bar and restaurant has closed.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closing of West Towne Pub after 18 incredible years,” the post stated. “As of this morning, April 15th, marks the end of an era, and we are filled with gratitude as we reflect on the memories made within these walls.”

West Towne Pub thanked its patrons for their support, laughter and camaraderie in their Facebook post Monday, April 15.

“To our dedicated staff: you have been the backbone of West Towne Pub, pouring your passion into every dish served and every drink poured. Your hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed, and we are indebted to each and every one of you for your commitment to excellence,” the post stated.

Employees notified via text message

Bridgette Clouser, who has worked at West Towne Pub since 2022, confirmed reports that employees were notified of the business' closure Monday morning via text message.

"It was a copy and paste of the same message from the Facebook post that was sent to my manager from the owner to tell us," Clouser told the Ames Tribune. "So, we haven't heard a word from the owner Jason Mikkelsen himself at this moment."

West Towne Pub, located at 4518 Mortensen Road, Suite 101, did not respond to requests for additional information on Monday morning.

“As we bid farewell, we carry with us a treasure trove of memories that will forever hold a special place in our hearts,” the post stated. “Though this chapter may be closing, the spirit of West Towne Pub will live on in the friendships formed, the laughter shared, and the love that permeated every corner of this establishment.”
