Girl, 5, died from child abuse: officials

A 5-year-old girl died Sunday afternoon after she suffered multiple abuse-related injuries, according to officials.

The girl, whom the Cook County medical examiner’s office identified as Lyric Jackson, lived in the far South Side neighborhood of Roseland.

Chicago Police were called to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Lyric was pronounced dead that afternoon and had visible bruises on her face, according to police.

The medical examiner ruled the girl’s death a homicide due to child abuse-related injuries following a Monday autopsy. Police said no one is in custody and area detectives are investigating.
