RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced the Commerce Road over Goodes Creek bridge will be closed for maintenance beginning today.

According to DPW, beginning Wednesday, April 10, the bridge on Commerce Road over Goodes Creek will be closed one month ahead of the bridge replacement project.

After an inspection this morning, it revealed that the 84-year-old bridge has severe deterioration.

The bridge replacement was originally set for May 2024, as a part of Commerce Road Improvements, which is set to complete by late 2025.

According to DPW, the detours for the bridge project have been approved and are already set in place.

  • Southbound: Drivers can travel from Bellemeade Road to Richmond Highway to Bells Road.
  • Northbound: Drivers can travel from Bells Road to Richmond Highway to Bellemeade Road.
