Bluey's family

It was only a matter of time but it appears Bluey fans (young and old) will finally get their wish, if the next episode goes to plan.

On Sunday, a very special extended episode of Bluey will air around the world, with concerns a new era of the cartoon is on the horizon.

Fear not though, the 28-minute episode, titled The Sign, which will be the longest episode of the cartoon to date, is part of a bigger plan which will be welcomed by parents and children across the world.

Bluey executive producer Daley Pearson revealed: ‘We would love to do a Bluey movie.’

Pearson added The Sign will be ‘testing how an audience will go’ and if kids will still be enthralled by a 28 minute episode when they’re typically seven to nine minutes.

He stressed to ABC Radio Brisbane there is ‘no guarantee’ of success.

Up Next

‘There was an element of, “Can an audience watch Bluey for longer?’”’ Pearson explained.

‘I think we’ll wait until Sunday to find out and that’ll help us figure out our own future.’

The episode comes after Bluey fans threatened to boycott altogether after discovering the Heeler family home which is often described a ‘fifth character’ is up for sale.

One parent, Marc Watterson, explained that his petrified kids have been asking where the Heeler family would move to and if they’ll be ditching the other loved characters behind.

‘What have you done??? My kids haven’t stopped talking about it all day!’ he wrote on X.

Others said their children were in tears over the bombshell.

Defending the move, creator Joe Brumm, who often uses his own life as inspiration for Bluey storylines, said: ‘It feels like after three seasons the house itself has become a sort of fifth Heeler character.

Some past episodes have touched on how a room can become imbued with memories and take on a life of its own. But families leave houses all the time.’

He added: ‘It happened to me as a kid around the same age Bluey and Bingo are, and then again a bit later on. I still remember it vividly.’

Bluey is available to stream on Disney Plus.
