Man sentenced to prison after Portland homeless camp shooting near I-5
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A man was sentenced to prison on Monday after shooting at three people in a homeless camp in Southwest Portland in 2023, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Ryan Fardreamer, 48, was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison as part of a plea deal, officials said. Fardreamer pleaded no contest and was found guilty on several charges – including attempted murder in the second degree with a firearm, assault in the second degree with a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon.
Additionally, Fardreamer will serve three years of post-prison supervision.
On March 6, 2023, Portland police were sent to Oregon Health & Science University to a reported shooting victim in the emergency room, authorities said.

Witnesses said Fardreamer drove to a homeless camp near Interstate 5 and Capitol Highway where he used his vehicle to block victims in and started firing gunshots at three people and hit a man in the leg as victims attempted to drive out of the camp, according to the district attorney’s office.
One victim hit Fardreamer’s vehicle as he drove from the scene, leading Fardreamer to later pour gas over the vehicle and threatened to set the truck on fire if he was not compensated for the damage, officials said.
After a grand jury indicted Fardreamer in July 2023, the court issued a warrant for his arrest. The following day, he was arrested, and authorities recovered two guns, the district attorney’s office said.
Officials noted Fardreamer has multiple felony convictions from other states including criminal sexual assault in the fourth degree from Minnesota, and sexual assault in the third degree in Iowa.
