VyprVPN is the creation of a company named Golden Frog. Golden Frog was founded in 2009, and was headquartered in Switzerland in order to take advantage of the country’s internet privacy laws. However, Golden Frog was bought by the Texas-based Certida in 2023, which changed the jurisdiction.

VyprVPN is a decent product with a better-than-average money-back guarantee and over 100 servers. As long as you’re connected, your data is protected by SHA2 authentication, AES-256 cipher and TLS-ECDHE-RSA-2048 encryption. Let’s explore the details of VyprVPN’s service, and how it stacks up against the competition.

VyprVPN overview

VyprVPN allows users to browse the web privately. There is no log of your activity. It has both personal and business VPNs available, and the company places a heavy emphasis on avoiding governmental censorship and surveillance. Its pricing is in line with the market, but some of its competitors do offer you more for less.

VyprVPN pros and cons

Pros

VyprVPN offers you a 30-day money-back guarantee, which isn’t necessarily a given among VPN providers. It also offers business VPNs in addition to personal VPNs. While its personal VPNs are priced in line with the competition, its business VPNs are a bit more expensive. The company has over 100 servers in 63 countries, giving you lots of options, but different servers will give you different connection speeds.

Cons

While VyprVPN does offer you that money-back guarantee, it doesn’t have a traditional free trial. You’re going to need to pull out your credit card, even to just give it a test run. The average upload and download speeds aren’t the fastest, and they will vary by country. You may be able to get a faster connection by connecting to a server in a country in your general vicinity in some instances.

VyprVPN pricing and value

STANDARD VYPRVPNVYPRVPN FOR BUSINESSVYPRVPN FOR BUSINESS CLOUD
Price per year

$349

VyprVPN only provides one consumer plan, but the price differs depending on whether you pay monthly or annually. Monthly, the service will run you $10. But if you switch to annual payments, it will cost you 50% less – or just $5 per month. This pricing structure is competitive with the best VPN services

VyprVPN also has a business package, which is $299 per year and includes a dedicated account manager for up to 3 users. You can upgrade further to a Business Cloud account to get your own dedicated server.

The biggest negative is that VyprVPN doesn’t come with a free option, while competitors like TunnelBear do (albeit with limited data.) If you try VyprVPN and are unhappy with the service, you do have 30 days to place a claim against the company’s money-back guarantee.

Features

One of VyprVPN’s biggest selling points is that it’s a no-log VPN. That means not only does the service prevent your internet service provider from invading your privacy, but VyprVPN itself won’t have access to your personal information, either. Other features include:

  • Servers in 63 countries.
  • Over 300,000 available IP addresses.
  • Split tunneling.
  • Chameleon protocol.
  • VyprDNS to combat DNS censorship.
  • DNS leak protection.
  • WireGuard and other VPN protocols.
  • WiFi protection when you’re using public networks.
  • Kill switch capabilities.

Servers

VyprVPN has over 100 servers in 63 countries. You get to pick which one you connect to, and with split tunneling, you can choose which traffic to route through which server. If you spend the money on a Business Cloud package, you’ll get access to your own private server.

Speed

Each server is going to have its own speed, though the average download speed using the WireGuard protocol is 142 Mbps. The country where it’s located can play a role, as can your proximity to that country. You can check server speeds before you connect using the “Fastest Server” option.

Devices

VyprVPN is supported on a number of different devices, though you may need to update your operating system if it’s out-of-date. Devices supported by VyprVPN include:

  • Devices running on Windows 10 or 11. (Surface ARM devices like Surface Pro X are not supported. Neither are WindowsRT or Windows servers.)
  • Mac devices running macOS 10.14 or higher.
  • Android devices running on Android 7.0 or higher.
  • iOS devices running on iOS 13 or higher.
  • Devices running on Chrome 53 or higher – but only through the Android app.
  • Second-generation Firestick and Amazon TV devices.
  • Routers using Tomato by Shibby firmware with select MIPS and ARMs.
  • All routers running DD_WRT firmware as long as it includes OpenVPN setup.
  • Routers running OpenWRT 15.05.
  • Routers running AsusWRT or AsusWRT-Merlin firmware – as long as your version includes a built-in VPN client.
  • QNAP x86 models running off of QTS 4.2.2 or higher.
  • Any Synology NAS.
  • All devices running OpenElec v5.

Mobile app

VyprVPN has a mobile app for Windows, Android, iOS and Mac devices. The apps get solid reviews in terms of star ratings across platforms, but there are also repeated complaints that the app has trouble with its auto-connect/disconnect feature.

VyprVPN vs. top competitors

VyprVPN doesn’t have the fastest connection speeds, though that can depend on the location of the server to which you connect. While it provides a wide variety of features, competitors may be able to meet your needs for less – at faster speeds.

VyprVPN vs Tunnelbear

VyprVPN has no free VPN option, but TunnelBear does. The catch is that you’ll be limited to 2 GB of data on the free plan. The cheapest personal plan is TunnelBear’s at $9.99 per month, and when you pay, the data restrictions are removed.

If you have a small business, the Teams plan at TunnelBear is dramatically cheaper at $5.75 per user per month. If you multiply that by three users (the maximum number of users), the monthly cost would be $17.25 per month. The cheapest business plan through VyprVPN is about $24.92 per month. That said, only VyprVPN gives you a 30-day money-back guarantee.

VyprVPN vs ExpressVPN

If you’re looking for a business VPN, VyprVPN gives you that option, while ExpressVPN does not. When you look at personal VPNs only, ExpressVPN is cheaper and also significantly outperforms VyprVPN in terms of average upload and download speeds. VyprVPN and ExpressVPN both offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.

VyprVPN vs CyberGhost

Overall, CyberGhost is a better option than VyprVPN. Its average upload and download speeds are faster, and you can get a free trial for anywhere from one to seven days, depending on your device.

CyberGhost’s money-back guarantee is also longer – 45 days compared to the 30 days VyprVPN gives you. CyberGhost doesn’t publicly share its business plan pricing; you’ll need to get a quote.
