In a nearly 4-hour long city council meeting on Tuesday, a developer for a $56 million affordable housing project presented the latest renderings and plans for a 214-unit apartment complex at the corner of 4th Street and Gaylord Boulevard.

"As far as we're aware, it'll be the largest ever affordable project in an urban setting in the state of Oklahoma," said developer Steven Watts.

City Council will consider final approval on the development at an April 23rd meeting. "This should be the example for our housing authority as far as being able to provide a product such as this instead of feeling like we have to continue to keep the same stock and not do something better," said Ward 7 Council Member Nikki Nice.

The Council also renewed a lease agreement in its concurrence docket for bringing a new paintball site to the North Canadian River Corridor, near 10th Street and Mustang Plant Road. "We were looking to expand, probably the first part of 2020," said Epic Paintball Owner Randall Coles.

Coles has a paintball site a few miles south of the city-owned location. He plans to operate both, with the second location offering a different style of gameplay influenced by the number of trees.

Action from the Council builds anticipation for a Planning Commission meeting on Thursday. Plans for the Oklahoma County Detention Center and The Boardwalk at Bricktown project will seek approval from the group.

If passed, both projects will advance to the City Council and Mayor. Those votes might happen as soon as May or June, according to a city spokesperson.
