Officials in Cass County are working to identify a person who died Saturday in a house fire near Ashland.
Cass County Sheriff Robert Sorensen said the fire broke out in the early-morning hours at a rural home near Horseshoe Lake on Fedde Lane. Ashland firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames, prompting a call to Murdock firefighters for water and manpower assistance.
First responders discovered a body within the premises. An autopsy was ordered.
Sheriff’s Office investigators are working to identify the deceased, Sorensen said, while the State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
