Acrisure Arena began hosting college basketball last year. Now, the venue is bringing in a college hockey event.

The arena, which opened in the Coachella Valley in December 2022, will host a four-team Division I hockey tournament in January, which organizers are calling the Cactus Cup. The event will run for two days.

The tournament will begin on Jan. 3, with Holy Cross facing Nebraska-Omaha and Michigan Tech facing UMass Lowell in a doubleheader that will begin at 3:30 p.m. The second day will include games between the winners and losers of Day 1.

Tickets for the event are not currently available but go on sale April 19 at 10 a.m.

The arena, which has served as the home of the Coachella Valley Firebirds, has hosted dozens of concerts and sporting events since opening. It’s hosted the likes of Harry Styles, Shania Twain and Madonna, in addition to an NBA preseason game between LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers and Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns.

On Thanksgiving, the venue played host to the most-watched college basketball game in 15 years in a matchup between Arizona and Michigan State.

The arena can seat up to 10,087 for hockey games.
