A man has died after being struck by a train in southeast D.C., according to the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD).

Crews with D.C. Fire and EMS arrived at the Stadium-Armory Metro Station late Monday night for reports of a person struck by a train shortly after 11 p.m.

Fire officials said the man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Metro officials tweeted that Orange Line Train service was suspended between Minnesota Avenue and Potomac Avenue and the Blue/Silver Line Train service was suspended between Benning Road and Potomac Avenue as a result. Shuttle bus services were established for commuters.

It's not clear what led up to the deadly incident, however, a spokesperson for MTPD said the individual was trespassing and was subsequently struck by the train.

This comes months after 7News reported on a disturbing TikTok trend involving "subway surfing," in which individuals climbed on top of moving railcars.

7News asked the spokesperson if the incident may be related to the trend, officials released the following information:

"Based on the preliminary investigation, the individual was exhibiting abnormal behavior and briefly exited the train through the bulkhead doors before disappearing from view. This is not believed to be a typical train surfing incident."

The investigation, led by MTPD, is ongoing.
