Northeast Ohio under wind advisory, gusts of 50 mph possible Friday

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A weather system is bringing plenty of rain to Northeast Ohio and also will create strong winds on Friday, with gusts up to 50 mph.

The National Weather Service says winds from the west will be steadily between 25 and 35 mph, building to the strongest gusts by Friday evening. High temperatures might struggle to reach 50 degrees. A wind advisory goes into effect at 11 a.m. Friday and is expected to continue until midnight.

Showers are likely through the morning Friday and occasional showers are expected during the afternoon. Up to a half-inch of rain could fall in some areas.

A flood watch was in effect for much of Northeast Ohio until 4 a.m. Friday. The Weather Service warns that some excessive runoff could cause flooding near rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

The combination of rain and strong winds could result in some power outages because of downed limbs, the Weather Service says.

The good news is skies are expected to clear Saturday and highs could approach 60 degrees, but wind gusts still could top 30 mph. Sunday’s high will be around 70 degrees but showers and thunderstorms are possible.
