Dozens Killed in Tanzania's 'Devastating' Floods, Landslides

The Tanzanian government has announced that 58 people have been killed by flooding and landslides caused by persistent heavy rainfall across the country.  Flood waters swept away houses and schools, as well as livestock according to eyewitnesses. Some affected people blamed the ongoing construction of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station for exacerbating the situation, a claim that the government has refuted. "Without the dam's intervention", a spokesperson said, "possibly the flood could have occurred as early as October last year".
