Today, Motorola is announcing the new Edge 50 lineup, which includes the Edge 50 Fusion, Edge 50 Pro, and Edge 50 Ultra. Which the company calls its “most beautiful and balanced edge family line-up.”

As expected, the Edge 50 Fusion is the lower-end model of the three. It comes with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 (or Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 in Latin America). It also has 8GB or 12GB of RAM, along with 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage. For Latin America, there’s only one SKU available, which has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

On the camera front, we’re looking at a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 13-megapixel Macro Vision camera, and then a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. The entire Edge 50 lineup is the first smartphone with a Pantone-validated camera and display. Motorola has equipped the Edge 50 Fusion with a 6.7-inch pOLED curved display and a 5,000mAh capacity battery. Paired with that processor, the battery should provide some incredible battery life.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro

The Edge 50 Pro is a slight step up from the Edge 50 Fusion. It sports the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It also has a 6.7-inch “Super HD” display, which is equivalent to a 1220p resolution. And this is all powered by a 4,500mAh capacity battery.

This one sports a triple-camera backside, which includes a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 13-megapixel Ultrawide sensor, and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor that is capable of 3x optical zoom. On the front, Motorola has included a 50-megapixel front-facing camera. Unfortunately, these cameras are not able to shoot video at 4K60; instead, they can shoot at 4K30 on all of the sensors. The Ultrawide also handles all of the macro photography and videography.

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra

When it comes to the Edge 50 Ultra, it’s not quite as high-end as you might expect. Motorola is going with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 on this one. That’s a slight step down from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but it does provide more AI power, which we’ll get to in a minute.

That processor is paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM (plus RAM Boost) and 512GB or 1TB of storage inside. This is the only Edge model with UFS 4.0 storage, and the other two use UFS 2.2. It also has the same display as the Edge 50 Pro, which is a 6.7-inch Super HD (1220p) display. It’s powered by a 4,500mAh capacity battery, too.

The Edge 50 Ultra also has a triple-camera setup on the rear, with a 50-megapixel primary camera. There is also a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, which does the Macro Vision, and finally, a 64-megapixel telephoto camera, which can handle up to 3x optical zoom. On the front, Motorola has included a 50-megapixel camera

moto ai debuts with the Edge 50 Family

As is the case with almost every flagship phone launching this year, Motorola is adding AI features to the Edge 50 family. Calling it “moto ai”. The company claims that Moto Ai is infused throughout the operating system, from the camera to a generative theming application to navigation and search.

Google Photos is the default photo app on Motorola phones (and has been for quite some time), and within that app, you’ll get features like Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and much more. This is all part of Google’s recent announcement, which is making these features available for free.

moto ai does bring in a few other features too, like Adaptive Stabilization which uses AI to determine the speed of movement while filming and dynamically adjusts the stabilization level for the best results. It can also use AI for auto-focus tracking and taking action shots. It will automatically increase and adjust the shutter speed based on different lighting conditions. AI is able to improve the details when light levels are poor, and noise is high.
