MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Montgomery is coming off of a particularly violent weekend with multiple shootings and fatalities. Police now confirm three deaths - all homicides - happened within a few hours of each other.

One shooting death happened before 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 3600 block of Gas Light Curve. Police said Ronel Gomez, 26, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the hospital.

No one has been arrested in this killing. Police are asking anyone with information to call Central Alabama CrimeStoppers at 334-215- 7867, Secret Witness at 334-625-4000 or the Montgomery Police Department at 334-625-2831.

Saturday night’s other homicide did not involve a gun. Police confirmed the killing of 37-year-old Summer Blackmon shortly after midnight, while court records allege she was bludgeoned to death with a dumbell. Derrick Onel Wilson has been arrested and charged with murder.

These homicides come on the heels of multiple other shootings already reported, including one on Perry Hill Road that left a man critically injured Saturday morning.

There was also a deadly shooting in the 3600 block of Kelly Lane late Saturday. While initially reported as a homicide, police later revised their report to say it is a death investigation and not a homicide.

Two other shootings were reported Friday, with one on Atlanta Highway that afternoon and another on Cherry Street a few hours later. The family of the Atlanta Highway victim says she is now paralyzed.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed spoke out about the recent violence Monday afternoon, before the three homicide investigations were publicly announced. He said on X, formerly Twitter, that there have been “too many shootings” in the city lately and more “community-driven solutions” are needed to address gun violence. He also referenced last week’s community violence intervention summit he hosted with Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr.
