Delivery driver in stolen car arrested after asking officers for directions

DENVER (KDVR) — Someone’s food order never made it to its destination after police in Boulder arrested a delivery driver who was allegedly traveling around in a stolen car.

“Your Delivery Driver is on their way…to Jail,” the Boulder Police Department tweeted on X.

The police said a delivery driver was arrested after asking officers for directions in a stolen vehicle.

It seems like an unlikely story, but officers said it happened on Sunday night.

According to Boulder police, two officers spotted a stolen car thanks to the Flock camera system and began to follow the driver in an unmarked police car.

Police said the driver called out to the officers, asking for directions on where to deliver some food.

Instead of receiving a tip, the driver received a pair of handcuffs. Boulder Police took the driver and their passenger into custody.

The female passenger had two prior motor vehicle theft convictions and an active drug trafficking warrant out of New Mexico, according to police. When officers searched her, they found 0.29 grams of methamphetamines and 0.49 grams of M30 blue pills that contained fentanyl. She also had three credit cards that were not under her name.

The passenger was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of drugs and felony possession of a financial transaction device.

Police found methamphetamines on the driver as well, and he was arrested on charges of motor vehicle theft, drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Besides the drugs, Boulder officers also said they found a fake BB gun that had been altered to look like a real gun and a large knife in the car.

“We’re glad we could remove these dangerous items from our streets and return this stolen car to its owner. Good work, officers!” said Boulder police on X.

The duo are currently booked into the Boulder County Jail.
