Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood delivered the annual State of the City address on Thursday night.

Wood pointed to a drop in crime last year as part of his annual State of the City address.

Wood also said that the decrease was is in part due to the implementation of 12-hour shifts for patrol officers.

He also talked about new residential projects like Phase 2 of the Mill at Ironworks Plaza, while working to keep housing costs down.

“Maybe it's turning our vacant lots into new building ready homes for habitat for humanity... lots for habitat for humanity. we work very effectively with our building trades classes over at the high school and so through partnerships we're able to keep... and also the city also participates in building infrastructure that helps keep some of those costs down and keep our housing stock a little bit more affordable,” said Wood.

Other projects that should be completed this year include the Mishawaka Fieldhouse by late summer.

Including a new Fire Station Number 2 by the fall.
