For those who live with cats, you know that they rule the roost, and just like your parents when you were a teenager, they don’t like closed doors. Amber from the West On Willow Instagram account posted a video about the Kitty Korner earlier this month, and it’s since racked up hundreds of thousands of likes because it’s just that brilliant.
“Not everyone is going to agree with me, but I prefer to sleep with my door closed. However, I do have two little furballs, and let’s be honest, this is really their house,” Amber said in her video. “So I installed a Kitty Korner to our bedroom door to allow them to come and go as they please.”
The Kitty Korner is a patented “SlideLock” hinge that you attach to a corner of your door — it comes in either a lefthand or righthand kit — so that you can open up that corner to allow your cats in and out as they please. You can also close the door by sliding the corner back into place. All you see is a thin seam where the hinge is.
“This SlideLock hinge comes with a cut guide that you tape to your door and then you just cut right down the dotted line,” Amber continued. “Once you have your cut, the install is pretty simple. Mark your screw holes, drill your pilot holes, and secure your hinge. The SlideLock hinge allows your door to be locked open or locked shut if you decide you want to keep your cats outside the room.”
