What is 21st Century Insurance?

21st Century has provided insurance to Americans for more than 60 years. It’s backed by a parent company (Farmers Insurance), but it writes new auto policies only in California. It operates primarily online, over the phone and by mail. You can use the website or mobile app to manage your policy, though the company also offers further assistance with its 24/7 interactive voice response services. To submit documents or cancel, you’ll likely have to send by post.

The company also offers free 24/7 roadside assistance, and because it operates primarily online, you can manage your policy almost entirely through the website or app. Its claims service is straightforward, and it allows electronic signatures and provides other helpful features. You can get a 21st Century quote on its website by providing your ZIP code and information about your vehicle; you can also call its customer service line and speak to an agent.

They doubled my rates a few months ago with no reason. Literally over 100%. Today I have spent the past 2 hours on hold, with a call back that was transferred, a woman who "promised" my wait was on the "expedited" line and would take 5 minutes (it was 45), then was disconnected by the representative who finally picked up. They did not call back and here I sit on hold for another 35 minutes so far , still waiting. What a joke. There is no customer service. My plan is to cancel my policy and I do not recommend this company. I have been with them for over 20 years.

This place is a JOKE. My mother has been trying to get ahold of someone for over a WEEK. They have locked her out of her online account and NO ONE answers the phone here! All we wanted to do was pay her bill. Do they not want the money? Avoid this place by any means!! I am currently on hold and have been waiting for 2 hours and 28 minutes I'm pretty sure they hung up because I do not hear the music anymore either. I wish I could give zero stars.

My wife has been trying to get through to them to cancel their terrible insurance. You cannot get through to their customer service line or do it online. Stay far away from this terrible company. Also read they have a $50 cancellation fee. Well, they need to be charged hundreds of dollars for how long they waste customer's time.

I have been a loyal customer since 1998, I had a few problems before on 2015 and 2022, but problems were resolved after calling their customer service. Recently I called their customer service to remove a vehicle and a driver from my policy. But the wait on the phone was over 30 minutes so I tried online and was able to removed the vehicle but not the driver. I tried the next day but neither of the dropdown options online applied to my removal. I got out of their website and tried calling them, I was on the phone for 1 hour and 30 minutes and no one would pick up the phone. I tried the next day from work during my lunch time but after 30 minutes I had to hang up since no one would answer my call. I still have not been able to remove the driver from my policy, I cannot do it online and their customer service does not answer the calls....What do I do now? This has to be one of the worst customer service companies in America.

I'm a long customer and this is the worst, everything is tech except mobile. It locked me out from making changes. Calling wait time 40 mins to a hour if you don't get hung up on. Wait is longer than my lunch.

I have been a LONG time customer of 21st Century Insurance. I rarely drive my car but my rates go up and up. They recently sent an email asking me to update my annual mileage but the link didn't work. They said if I didn't do it, my insurance would not be renewed. I called and called and finally got hold of someone. I updated my mileage. Now my new statement came in with a 15% increase and my annual mileage is 3000 more miles than I stated. I live in a big city and take public transportation; my cars sits in a locked garage for 95% of the week. I have tried to call them for 4 days now and nobody answers the phone. Sat on hold for over an hour and their automated system hung up on me. I cannot get a hold of anyone!

I've been a 21st Century Insurance customer for over 40 years. I've paid the thousands upon thousands of dollars for my auto insurance over the years. Recently they sent me a letter informing me that my insurance coverage is going to be cancelled for non payment of their latest invoice. I have been paying them consistently, these past few years using BofA's auto pay system. According to BofA, a check was sent out over 1 month ago. I even have the bank put a tracer on the check and they have offered to contact 21st Century to make sure the payment gets posted. The problem is, no one can get ahold of anyone at 21st Century.

If you call one of the myriad of numbers they have for customer service, you get put on an endless hold. I sat on hold with them the other day for over 1 1/2 hours, only to get disconnected as soon as someone can on the line. I am now questioning if 21st Century is really interested in retaining by business, or if they are actually still in business. They seem to have on problem asking for and taking people's money, but customer service seems nonexistent. I have a quote from AAA in hand. It's a bit more money, but at least I can talk to a live person.

I have been a 21st Century customer for over 30 years. I used to have auto and home owner insurance, but when they left the California homeowner's insurance market I retained my auto insurance with them. I have been on hold for over an hour and a half trying to get assistance with my auto insurance policy. This is extremely unacceptable. Over the years I have never experienced these wait times until recently. They close in 38 minutes, so I hope someone answers before 6 PM. I’m not sure what’s going on, but it certainly appears they’re having some problems.

Today I received an email from the company asking for updated mileage on my car. The links in the message did not work. I went to the website and there was no indication or place to input the information. I called customer service and was on hold for an hour and a half, with no one answering. I went back to the website, as the phone message center indicated that you could send an email. There was no place on the site to write an email. All they had were the phone numbers I had already called. I have now written a letter and will mail it, as I am unable to get in touch with anyone.

Having been with 21st Century car insurance for over 4 years now it's not what it used to be as of when Farmers Insurance took it over. Claims are a joke and you will be cheated out of the worth of your car when it comes to payment for damages or loss. First you are no longer dealing with the good old folks from the real 21st century co. Instead you are now forwarded to Farmers which has a terrible reputation, lousy staff and adjusters. I have been appalled with the service.

The only site has gone cheap and useless, most of the options don't work like changing a credit card for autopay. Resetting your password is a nightmare. Forcing you to change your password is done without notice, they will make you try your password many time till you finally figure out they demand changing it and don't inform you. Calling to fix problems online they will charge your account $3 calling fee. Can you believe that? Plus the robot call will ask so many useless questions wasting time then tell you no one is available and hang up. It's time to dump 21st century. All Farmers did was take a good company over and destroy everything.
