Jansen (1-0) got the win over the Cubs on Sunday, pitching a perfect inning while striking out a batter in the process. Jansen entered in the ninth with the score tied 4-4 and did his job by retiring the side in order in 10 pitches. He would wind up with his first win of the campaign after the Red Sox walked it off in the bottom of the inning. Jansen has now pitched three consecutive scoreless outings after blowing a save chance April 16. For the year, he owns a 1.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB in 9.2 innings to go along with five saves.
Houck didn't factor into the decision in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Cubs, allowing one run on four hits and zero walks while striking out nine over 6.2 innings. Houck kept the Cubs off the scoreboard until Matt Mervis scratched an RBI-single off him with two outs in the seventh, which wound up being the last batter he faced. Sunday was already his third start this season with at least nine strikeouts and zero walks. He is rapidly approaching ace status and it's no secret now he's becoming one of the best pitchers in baseball with the unbelievable start he's had over the first month. The 28-year-old boasts a 1.60 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 41:5 K:BB in 39.1 innings and projects for a road start against the Twins his next time out.
Grissom (hamstring) went 4-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. The Red Sox are expected to wrap up Grissom's rehab assignment and activate him for Tuesday's series opener against the Giants. While with the WooSox, Grissom went 10-for-30 with five walks, two steals and three runs scored. Grissom is expected to start at second base, while newcomer Garrett Cooper could slide in at first to create a new right side of the infield.
Duran went 1-for-4 with a walk, triple and two RBI in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Cubs. Duran tripled in two runs in the sixth inning then drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth before scoring the winning run on Tyler O'Neill's walk-off single. Duran has started all 29 games thus far, including 27 of them as the team's leadoff batter. He's second on the Red Sox with 17 runs and leads the club in triples with three. Because of Ceddanne Rafaela moving from center field to shortstop, Duran is locked in as Boston's starting center fielder.
O'Neill went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Cubs. O'Neill delivered a walk-off single after the Red Sox squandered a 4-0 lead. His blooper to left against an infield playing in plated Jarren Duran with the winning run. For O'Neil, who was 0-for-3 at the time, the single extended hit streak to seven games, during which he's 11-for-27 with three home runs, five RBI and six runs scored.
Yoshida exited Sunday's 6-5 win over the Cubs in the sixth inning due to a left hand injury, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Yoshida jammed his left hand on a groundout in his first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning, ultimately leaving the game after the top of the sixth inning. Considering the outfielder was able remain in the game as long as he did and even record a hit in his second at-bat, it's possible that the injury is minor. The team will determine if he needs X-rays during Monday's off day, and he can be considered day-to-day for the time being.
Whitlock (oblique) has not thrown off a mound yet in his recovery, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. Whitlock has been on the 15-day injured list with an oblique injury since April 17, but he doesn't appear to be nearing a return quite yet. Manager Alex Cora said Sunday that the right-hander is "feeling better" but he "still feels it" in regards to his left oblique strain, barring the 27-year-old from progressing with any mound work. Chase Anderson was asked to start Thursday against the Guardians and with Whitlock still unavailable, Anderson could stay in the rotation for the time being.
