Decatur’s first comic-con to be held this weekend

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — This weekend, Midwest Toy and Comic Fest is hosting Side Quest Decatur, the city’s first comic con.

More than 100 tables of vendors will be selling comics, toys, sports cards, video games, Funko Pops, artwork and other collectibles. Attending celebrities include Paul Niemeyer, an artist who created artwork on dozens of arcade cabinets and designed Mortal Kombat’s dragon logo, and Isaak Wells, a viral internet creator known for his Skeletor Facts videos.

Other guests at Decatur Side Quest include author Kenny Sills and comic artist Afua Richardson.

The con is also hosting a cosplay costume contest at 2 p.m., with two divisions of kids and adults. There will also be Super Smash Brothers and Mario Kart tournaments which start at noon on April 13. $40 prizes will be handed out to the winners.

The con will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at the Decatur Civic Center. The cost for admission into the con is $5. Kids under 10 are free so long as they are accompanied by an adult.
