Summer-like warmth continues

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Happy Tuesday! Another warm day is in the forecast for your day today. We saw a few storms late Monday evening, but most areas stayed dry. It’s all about LOCATION for our rain & storm chances over the next few days, just like last night. Last night it was mainly areas north and west of Lexington that experienced storms. For your day today, a few midday showers & a storm or two will be possible across the region. The main threat for storms will be into far northeastern Kentucky into southern Ohio and West Virginia. There is a Level 1 Severe Risk for northeastern Kentucky due to this storm threat. Outside of midday rain chance in Lexington, it will be another warm day with temperatures climbing into the low 80s.

Overnight we will be tracking a line of showers and storms moving into central Kentucky. Southern and southeastern Kentucky? This line of storms likely won’t impact you. It’s mainly areas north and west of Lexington that will see the rain and storm chance. The timeframe will be after midnight into Wednesday morning.

There is another chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening. This chance has decreased, leading to a lower severe weather threat for much of the region. There is a Level 1 Severe Risk for most of the ABC 36 viewing area for Wednesday. Strong wind gusts will be the main threat as this line moves through. The severe risk increases north of the Ohio River into Indiana and Ohio.

Thursday will be mainly dry during the daytime. Temperatures should return to the mid-to-upper 70s during the afternoon hours. A cold front will be moving through the region late Thursday into Friday. Showers and thunderstorms will be likely ahead of this line as it moves eastward. This will be impacting our area Thursday night into the daytime hours on Friday. There is still some disagreement on the exact timing for when the rain will exit. The GFS (American Model) wants to keep lingering shower chances around through the daytime hours on Friday, while the European model now wants to clear this rain out quickly. The Euro was more in line with the GFS yesterday, so that just reiterates that there is still uncertainty.

The weekend does look cooler across the region, especially late Saturday into the day on Sunday. Afternoon highs on Saturday and Sunday will struggle to get out of the 50s, while overnight lows could fall into the upper 30s for some. Rain chances will be possible on both day, but mainly in southern Kentucky.

Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
