He was convicted in 2008 and sentenced to 33 years’ imprisonment, with a minimum of nine years without parole. He was granted parole in 2017 and was released from prison that October. Simpson and Whitley welcomed Arnelle on December 4, 1968, a year after they married on June 24, 1967. Arnelle lives in Fresno, California, according to a 2017 report by USA Today. (Fresno County property records obtained by The Fresno Bee also indicated that Whitley had a home in northwest Fresno.)

Of Simpson’s five children, Arnelle was the most public and she was rumored to have dated rapper Tupac Shakur in the 1990s. (Tupac also referenced Simpson in his 1996 song, “Picture Me Rollin’”, in which he raps, “Free like O.J. all day, you can’t stop me.”

Arnelle was also called as a defense witness in Simpson’s murder trial in 1996 and testified for him again in 2013 when he was seeking a new trial for his robbery and kidnapping conviction in Nevada, according to The Los Angeles Times.

Arnelle is also credited for coming up with the idea for Simpson’s controversial 2008 book, If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer, which she revealed in a 2007 deposition. “This book deal has come to me to give to my dad. How do I go about making it legit?” she told Simpson’s lawyer during the trial, according to The Los Angeles Times. At the time, a Florida bankruptcy court was awarding the rights to the book to the family of Ronald Goldman, who Simpson was found liable of murdering in 1997 and. was ordered to pay more than $33 million in damages.

Birthday: April 21, 1970

As of 2016, Jason had been working as a chef for two years at the restaurant St. Cecilia in Atlanta, Georgia. While Jason has kept a low-profile since Simpson’s murder trial, author and private investigator William Dear claimed in his 2014 book, O.J. Is Innocent and I Can Prove It: The Shocking Truth about the Murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, that Jason was the real killer behind Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Holdman’s deaths. “Everything we have in the book is documented. It is not theory or hypothesis. It is fact,” Dear told The Huffington Post in 2012.

In the book, Dear claimed that the knife used in the murder, as well as photos and other evidence from the scene suggest that Jason was the true killer. “When I tell you we have the weapon — we found the weapon in Jason’s storage facility that he failed to make payments on. We know he carried it — his initials were carved in the leather sheath,” Dear said. He continued, “We have emails from his former roommates that were in college with him. We have our suspect’s diaries. We have his forged time card, and we have the vehicle he was driving on the night of the murders.”

As for the motive, Dear claimed that Jason suffered from “intermittent rage disorder,” which led to Holdman and Brown’s deaths. “Our suspect at the time was 5’11” and 235 pounds,” Dear said. “He was 24 years old, and he was on probation for assaulting his previous employer with a knife. In addition to that, he’s had three attempted suicides and has been in a psychiatric unit.”

On the day of the murders—June 12, 1994—Dear reported that Simpson and Brown attended a dance recital for their daughter. He alleged that Jason, for his part, was working as a chef at a Beverly Hills restaurant at the time and put together a special meal for the family that Brown didn’t attend. “You’re dealing with a young man who just weeks prior had checked into a hospital where he said he was out of his medication and was about to rage,” Dear said. “I have no doubt he had no intention of killing her, but [he] confronted her and, as a result, something happened.”

Dear also claimed that Jason had an obsession with knives with he learned about from alleged diaries written by Jason. It’s the year of the knife for me. I cut away my problems with a knife. Anybody touches my friends — I will kill them. I’m also tired of being Dr. Jekyll [and] Mr. Hyde,” he said. He continued, “I have been inducted into the Police Officer Hall of Fame as a private investigator, so my credentials are not [that of] some idiot guy just throwing it out there. My reputation is important to me. I would not say any of this without a great deal of backup.”
